Here's something funny Professor Erwin Griswold (Dean of Harvard Law for 21 years and Solicitor General under Johnson and Nixon) had to say about his former boss, Chief Justice Charles Evans Hughes Jr. (who also served briefly as Solicitor General from 1929-1930 before his appointment as CJ)

"President Herbert Hoover offered the chief justice position to Charles Evans Hughes of New York. He had been a member of the court from 1910 to 1916. He was 68. He looked like a chief justice. Former Solicitor General Erwin Griswold said, “He looked more like God than any man I ever knew.”"
