Sick
Today I am very sick: I had a hard time breathing and I feel like something's on my chest. Nevertheless, I had the pleasure of playing Go, a Chinese/Korean/Japanese chess game for the first time. I played with a very seasoned player in the Border's bookstore in downtown D.C.The gentleman taught me quite a few rules and principles of the game, and I really appreciate that. A graduate of William and Mary and an elementary school teacher, he has been to most part of the world, from China (where he further perfected his art) to Senegal. He's also the chairman of the Go club in D.C. metro area.
I also finished reading a smallish pamphlet, called The Way of Man According to the Teaching of Hasidism, written by the late Prof. Mordecai Martin Buber of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, a formost moral philosopher and Hasidic scholar. A more detailed book review will be posted later. It turns out that Hasids and Quakers, mystics in the Jewish and Christian religions, share quite a few understanding in the nature of the good life.
