C.S. Lewis the scholar

Turns out that Alastair Fowler, the editor of the authoritative edition of "Paradise Lost" I've got, was a former student of C.S. Lewis. Amazing, isn't it? Here's some interesting stuff he wrote about Jack:

Amazing stuff. Fowler apparent did natural sciences when he was at Edinburgh in the late 40s, and became a graduate student in English under Lewis in Oxford in 1952. My buddy Anil is a big fan of some of ths stuff members of the the Inking group wrote: J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings in particular. I'm considering looking into that.

His portrayal of C.S. Lewis somewhat reminds me of the popular portrayal of John Wesley. Ernest. Robust. Slightly bookish. Overwhelmingly intellectual. Big hearted. Principled. Men for all seasons.
